Da Hangar - Giles 202 #2
Return to Index
My first gas powered plane is a
Great
Planes Giles 202 ARF and Brison
2.4 c.i Engine.
This quarter scale model was finished by Vern Doty.
As of 9/11/02, I have 103 flights on this plane
and 6 gallons of unleaded
gasoline mixed with AMSOIL
Synthetic 100:1 Pre-Mix 2-Cycle Oil.
The oil is mixed at 90:1 ratio which is inside the manufactures
specification.
This is a strong engine which turns my APC 20x10 prop at 7400 RPM.
Yes, I know the propeller in the picture is a Master
Airscrew!
This plane has 7 servos, three in the tail, two on the ailerons,
and two on the engine. A servo on the choke makes priming and killing
the engine easy. This plane is heavy compaired to my glow power
giles. The gear was bent on the first landing due to the weight
and forward CG. After 50 flights, I replaced it with a gear from
TNT Landing
products. It now flys, (and lands) better than ever. The plane
takes 12% up elevator and 4 % right aileron to fly a straight knife
edge. Following my 97th flight (9/2/02), I notice a weakening of
the sheeting near the saddle. I removed the covering and noticed
a crack. I have glued and glassed the crack and the plane is back
in the air. I plan to fly this plane for another 100 flights!
