Hanger 9 Cap 232

(Judy's Folly)

570 flights

I purchased this plane from John Roberts on June 11th, 2004. The H9 Cap has a BME 102 for power. I presently get 5750 rpm using the MSC 26x10 propeller and 5800 rpm a 26x10nx propeller. I find that the engine gets about 300rpm less speed with premium gas compared with regular gas when mixed with Amsoil 100:1 oil. In October 2004, I added a 3W carburetor air intake manifold with a carburetor diaphragm cover thanks to Ralph at RC Ignitions. While the engine rpm did not increase, I now NEVER have to clean my plane due to gas spilling from the carb. It seems that I was loosing a lot of fuel through the cowl's airflow siphoning fuel from the carburetor. After 427 flights I noticed one of my cylinders cutting out while in flight. After sending it off to C&H Ignitions, it was discovered that the ignition had a bad coil. I had both coils and the ignition wires replaced. On June 25th, 2005 and after 454 flights my main gear broke! It seems that the aluminum bracket failed. I replaced the brackets and I am now in the air again! On April 20th, 2007, following a recovering of the plane, I put it back in the air. It flys better than ever. Well while on my third flight, my plane went into failsafe. I was screaming at everyone to turn off there radio. To no avail, the plane went in and destroyed the airframe, engine and servos. It was the best flying plane I have ever had. So on today May 28th, 2007 I am out of planes and money. May Judy's Folly Rest In Peace!
Hanger 9 Extra 330S

309 flights

I decided to assemble my Hangar 9 Extra 330s with the BME 102 for power. It flew it's maiden flight on April 6th, 2006. I decided to use the Hangar 9 AnglePro 4-in-1 Digital Throw / Incidence Meter (HAN192)to set up the plane. This is an excellent tool that everyone should own and use. I can perform 4 - one second aileron rolls on an up-line without the plane loosing track. Precision is excellent. Today 12/3/06 on my 309th flight, my left wing exploded approaching the runway during a high speed pass. The explosion was so violent only the aileron was found. The plane and engine are totaled. This was a great bird and will be missed.
Hanger 9 Sukhoi

62 flights

Well what can I say. I liked the first Sukhoi so well I had to get another one. I used my existing radio equipment, purchased a BME 102 engine from Jerry Bullaboy and a used H9 Sukhoi from Bob Laine. Put the first flight on this plane on Dec 18th, 2005. I am now back in the air with my Russian wonder! Spent some time adjusting the incidence of the wing and engine. The plane flys a lot better than before. Also switched from Amsoil 100:1 to Belray MC-1. Ran 10 gallons at 50:1. Will go to 70:1 and see how it works. Engine is strong but exhaust is oily.

Well, what can I say. On March 18th, 06 during my 3rd flight of the day, 3/4 of my rignt wing decided to leave the plane during a turn. The plane was unflyable and it went in hard! May it RIP.
Hanger 9 Sukhoi 64 flights I found this plane online in January of 2005. After building the H9 Sukhoi over the winter, On June 25th, 2005, I decided to move my BME 102 from my H9 Cap to the Sukhoi. I found that with the BME up front and the empennage servos in the rear, I could not get the plane to balance as recommended. After getting the CG within one inch of the recommended range, I put up a quick flight. All I can say is that the plane is VERY nimble in the tail heavy condition. The engine was moved 3 inches out from the firewall. It now tracks great. Pitches a little to the belly with rudder application. I want to thank John Glezellis for adjusting my plane for me.

What can I say, on September 11th, 2005, I replaced my Futaba aileron servos with Hitec Digital servos. I adjusted the throws and got them balanced. Everything was adjusted correctly. I took off and the plane needed zero trim. I went to turn outbound and that is when the plane started to go all over the place. After 5 great saves and a lot of adrenaline, the plane crashed and was totally lost. After a lot of checking and discussion, I remember that Futaba and Hitec servos turn in opposite directions. I forgot to reverse the servos in my Futaba 9C's transmitter. This plane was the best I have every owned to date. May she rest in peace (pieces).
Wild Hare Edge 41 flights I have completed the assembly of my
Wild Hare RC Edge. This ARF was very easy to assemble. The maiden flight was 12/28/03 and it was very successful. I am flying this plane with a Brison 3.2c.i. engine. While this engine provides more power than needed, flying is typically done at half throttle or less. I decided to sell this plane on April 2004. A great flying plane but Edges are not for me.
GP Wagstaff 300s 210 flights My Patty Wagstaff Great Planes Model
Extra 300s had it's maiden voyage on June 1, 2003 and it is by far the smoothest plane I have ever owned. December 20th, 2003 (after 169 flights) I changing the servos in my wing to Hitec digitals and installed a Brison 3.2c.i. engine so I could spin a bigger propeller. I am using an Airwild NX 21x8 propeller at 7250rpm. I expect the speed to increase when the engine breaks in. I now have unlimited verticals and can fly any maneuver that I have skill to perform. This combination is great! During flight 194 (1/3/04), I had a mid-air that sheered 6 1/2 inches off of the left wing. Landed the plane without incident. I am back in the air and completed my 200th flight (most for me on any one plane) on January 17, 2004. (42 degrees outside) During my first IMAC contest of the year (Venice, FL) my plane decided to do an outside loop on take off. Only 50% of the loop was performed and what was left was kindling!(RIP 1/17/04)
Carden Extra 300s 34 flights On 12/23/02, I purchased a used Carden Extra 300s with a Sachs 4.2 c.i. engine. While this was purchased RTF, it was far from it. (Buyer Beware) after $475 plus 3 servos, the plane was ready to fly. I now know why Carden is a favorite of the professionals. It fly's great! I am looking to sell this plane cheap. If you know of anyone who wants a big plane without the big cost, then let me know. Engine was sold on 4/18/05 to Michael Boliak.
GP Giles 202 ARF 124 flights Vern Doty assembled my 2nd Giles ARF and put Brison 2.4 c.i. engine in it. This plane flies great but is really heavy. The engine is turning an APC 20x10 propeller at 7400 RPM. The ailerons are very responsive and setting the CG will be critical with this much weight. Initially the CG was at 10-3/8 inch from the T.E. Now the CG is at 9-1/8 and the plane is nimble. I have had it as far back as 8-7/8 but the plane's low speed handling was a little chaotic. Following my 97th flight (9/2/02), I notice a weakening of the sheeting near the saddle. I removed the covering and noticed a crack. I have glued and glassed the crack and the plane is back in the air. On May 2, 2003, following 124 great flights, this airframe was retired. In July 2003, this plane was sold.
GP Giles 202 ARF 67 flights Vern Doty assembled my Giles ARF and put my YS140FZ engine in it. On 4/21/02, I sold the YS140FZ to a guy in Texas. Sold the plane in October 2002.
GSP Edge 540T 1 flight This plane was assembled by Vern Doty and has my YS120NC rebuilt after throwing a pin in the piston. I put one flight on this plane and it handles nicely With this engine, the plane has unlimited vertical. Sold plane in March 14, 2003.
Midwest Extra 300 7 flights I purchased a used Midwest 300s from Rich Bennell. The plane has a Zenoah G45 turning a 20x8 Zinger propeller. The Reebok design is impressive. The engine is not as strong as the Brison 2.4 c.i. but does pull the plane around effectively. I have sold the plane to Rich Taylor in order to reduce my inventory and to fund assembly of my Patty Wagstaff Great Planes Extra 300s.
Epic Extra RTF 51 flights One of my first ARF's was an Epic Extra 300 S., with a Super Tigre G90 engine. My review of this plane can be seen HERE! This is a very good plane, that was very easy to fly. It took me about 5 hours to assemble and it is very responsive. I have put in 42 flights and this will definitely be my sports flyer. I have completed the disassembly of this plane and have inspected it for problems. While no problems were found, I did make several modifications. I have replaced all of the "Z" bends with clevises. The plane is well built and is hard to stall on landings. If you order one from Epic, please tell them you found it here on this web site! Sold this plane on June 30, 2003
Ohio RC 300L 36 flights One piece wing ~ 72 inch span. YS 1.20NC, Futaba and JR coreless, metal gear servos. Tru Turn spinner; APC 16x6. Monokote white, blue and circus pink, fiberglass cowl and wheel covers. Plane fly's extremely well. On 11/3/01, I was pulling out of a downline after executing a tail slide and the plane snapped instead of recovering. On the second attempt to recover, it snapped a second time and it went in [RIP]. The elevator was set to minimum throws.
CG Sukhoi 110 flights Well after the 110th flight (8/26/01), the Carl Goldberg Sukhoi SU26mx went into a tree and is totaled [RIP]. The consensus at the flying field is that the left elevator half broke or was not effective and the idiot holding the transmitter (me) was so fascinated at the time that he didn't use the ailerons to compensate for the roll.
Hobbico Avistar 115 flights The trainer I learned on was the Avistar 40 Mark II. It is a sturdy plane that is forgiving as well as responsive. In March 2002, I sold this plane to a local flier.
On April 30,00 after 96 successful flights, I encountered my first crashed due to a flame out during a flat spin. It will do loops OK but will pitch excessively during rolls. I have flown inverted many times and it takes a LOT of down to keep it flying level. I would recommend this trainer over others with dihedral and a flat bottom. Sold the plane in the fall of 2001
My RC Trailer   On September 28, 2002 I purchased a trailer that was previously owned by Ken McGuire. I modified the trailer to haul my plane's coffin. It works great and I will be providing pictures of my setup in the near future!

As of December 2006, after reviewing this page and looking at all the planes I have had and flown over the past 7 years, I find that I have flown 1740 flights in 217 months or an average of four flights each week. I guess I need to find another hobby if I have the time! (LMAO)

Well, the 2006 SE IMAC season is just about over. I participated in only two contest so I didn't place well in the regional standings. I plan to remain in the Sportsman class next year with the goal of finishing in the top 10 and flying in the regional competition.

This website is dedicated to the beginning R/C modeler and builder.

On March 12, 01 I moved south of Atlanta, Ga. I joined the Flying Griffins who fly at Candler Field just west of Griffin, Ga. between the communities of Rover and Zetella.

In June 2001, I joined the Henry County RC Club that flies at a field south of McDonough, Ga. just off of I-75 between exit 216 and exit 218.

I completed my training and received my wings in February of 2000. As of June 12, '00, I have logged over 329 hours on the Great Planes Real Flight R/C Simulator. The trainer I learned on was the Avistar 40 Mark II. It is a sturdy plane that is forgiving as well as responsive. I have put 115 flights on this model and find that it is a good flyer. On April 30,00 after 96 successful flights, I encountered my first crashed due to a flame out during a flat spin. It will do loops OK but will pitch excessively during rolls. I have flown inverted many times and it takes a LOT of down to keep it flying level. I would recommend this trainer over others with dihedral and a flat bottom if you have had prior flight experience or have practiced on real flight. If you have RealFlight and fly the Cessna 182 at 1.6 zoom, it will be a good representation of the Avistar. As you cruise this site please feel free to email me with suggestions for improvements as well as tips to assist other beginners in their efforts to become master flyers.
