First and foremost, Either select this link to
locate an AMA chartered field in your area
or find a R/C hobby shop in your area.
This Hobbico Dealer Locator may help you!

Enter U.S. Zip Code:

A hobby shop will let you know where the local
flying fields are and can assist you in purchasing the
proper airplane and accessories to get you started.

Second, most local flying clubs require that you join the The Academy of Model Aeronautics Inc. (AMA) A link to AMA's Membership FAQ page is provided.

Recreational fliers in this hobby are referred to as Fun Flyers. This basically means that you have flown solo. Flying solo just means that you can takeoff and land, upwind and downwind, without crashing. Most clubs in the central Indiana area will classify you as a Level 1 (someone who flies with the assistance of a qualified instructor) when you join. They will then reclassify you from a Level 1 to Level 2 (someone who has flown Solo) after several hours of ground and flight training. Flying solo puts you at a level to enjoy our hobby without injury to you or your spectators. Many times the beginner may desire to execute some basic maneuvers to add excitement to his/her flying. Rolls, Loops, and Inverted flight are three basic maneuvers which are easy and fun to execute. Please view the aerobatics section to better understand these as well as other maneuvers.
